Previously i've used the Glamglow Youthmud mask which is a wash off mask. I love that one so much and i actually prefer a peel off mask as i find them easier and less messy so i have always wanted to try one from Glamglow. Glamglow masks are expensive but in my experience they do work, which in my eyes makes them worth it. After seeing so many pictures of people using this on Instagram, I too wanted to look like a sexy tin man. When you buy this it comes in a very big box for what it is but it also comes with a little brush to apply it with. I do use the brush to apply the mask and i think it is a nice size and applies the product evenly. However if you have bigger hands than me you might struggle as the handle on the brush is miniature. The mask itself is white with a chrome iridescence to it, when first applied it is white but slowly as it sets, the mask morphes into chrome. When i first tried it my mother was very scared by my tin man look. Other than making your face look terrifying this mask is actually designed to do some good.
Some of the claims of this mask suggest that it 'leave[s] the skin feeling firmer and lifted....delivering toned-looking sexy contours.' As this mask sets, it does dry down and gets tighter but it is not an uncomfortable feeling. I must admit i haven't noticed a massive change to my skin as i am only 24 with minimal lines but my face does have a fresher, more youthful look to it. Additionally after i have used this my make up does seem to sit better. The above information is from the Glamglow website which really doesn't say much about the mask but Sephora does say a little bit more. On Sephoira it says it is a solution for:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- uneven skintone
- loss of firmness and elasticisity
as i said it doesn't really effect wrinkles for me as i don't really have them but my skin looked more radiant. I really enjoyed using this mask but i can't help but think of the problems with it.
This is a mud-based peel off mask, which to me is quite innovative, i've never really heard of this concept before but is it all really a bit of a gimmick? First of all i would like to make an argument for this mask, i've read a lot of reviews on this mask and a lot of people expect miracles from it. I read a review complaining that it doesn't exfoliate. Well its not going to. No where does it claim to be an exfoliating mask and there is nothing in it which would suggest it exfoliates. Sometimes i wonder if people really consider what they are writing when they review products. However this mask doesn't really make many claims other than firming and helping wrinkles, both of which are rather bold statements. I mean i don't think it is going to completely take away any wrinkles so to what extent can it claim this? Personally for me this mask only makes my skin more radiant and helps with its plumpness. Is it really worth £39? No not really, i could pick up any mask which claims the same probably for cheaper but you won't look like the tin man,
This does help with what it claims to but it isn't a drastic difference which is probably why people don't always like it. Personally i like it and i will happily use the whole jar and i find the peel off mask very satisfying and much easier to use than your standard mud mask. Would i spend £39 on this mask again, i'm not sure i like the mask. I enjoy using it and do quite like the after effects of using it but £39 is a lot of money. I think if i was having the ultimate pamper night and i was feeling a bit spendy then yes i would repurchase this but i don't think when i finish this tub i will be rushing out to buy a new one. As i say it is enjoyable to use but the effects aren't outstanding.
If you do want to try this mask and are based in the US, Sephora have just launched a smaller size of 15g for $22. You don't get the brush but it would give an idea of the effects of the mask without being committed to it. I haven't seen the smaller size in the UK so i'm guessing we can't get it yet but we always seem a little bit behind launches so it is worth keeping your eye out for. I've spoken about Glamglow masks before and i do think they are a lovely treat.
