Thank goodness for sunshine I say! Yes we have had a dry day and enjoyed lots of mountainous scenery as we gradually work our way north. First thing we had a quick burst of energy and climbed up to the top of Oban to visit McCaig’s tower. A Victorian folly with far reaching views overlooking the western isles. We certainly used up plenty of puff on the climb up but the vistas were worth all the effort.
Leaving Oban behind we had a series of disasters with the Satnav. First off we programmed in Dunstaffnage castle only a few miles away. We ended up in a newly built housing estate, definitely not the right place. Ten minutes later we were back on track and parked up to view the thirteenth century castle with Viking origins. Certainly worth the visit and lots of helpful people around to colour in the history of the place.
Second disaster, after a beautiful journey along Loch Creran and Loch Linnie, was locating the visitor centre for Glencoe. We ended up down a beautiful forested single track road nowhere near our destination with very few passing places. Returning the way we came we were able to discover the correct route and realised we were very close just the wrong side of the A82. Mutter, mutter!
The visitor centre was well worth the diversion as was a walk up to signal rock. We crossed the River Coe and had stunning views of Glencoe. The picture above was from the bridge.
We continued along the A82 for a few more miles stopping at different viewing points to take more photos. Of course the third Satnav disaster had to happen didn’t it! We programmed in our hotel just a few miles away. Sadly we ended up on a parallel road. Very annoying when the voice announces you have reached your destination when you really haven’t. All was not lost, maps were consulted and finally we found the right place.
Despite technology issues it’s been another great day with lots more still to come. Hope you are keeping up on the map!
