Ahead of their southern Africa tour on Monday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are enjoying the weekend in the Eternal City of Rome for the wedding of one of Meghan's closest friends Misha Nonoo to oil tycoon Mikey Hess. The couple reportedly touched down early yesterday and were photographed arriving for the sunset ceremony at the stunning Villa Aurelia at 5 pm. You can view a selection of arrival shots on the Mail Online.
Misha was formerly married to one of Harry and William's Eton school friends Alexander Gilkes, and it's understood she played the role of matchmaker between the Sussexes back in 2016. Meghan's friendship with Misha has been a strong one for years. Speaking to The Evening Standard, Misha revealed: "I love her to death. She is the coolest girl in the world. We were seated next to one another at a lunch and we got along like a house on fire. She has the most remarkable and generous spirit. I aspire to be as philanthropic as she is, and to have as much of an impact as her."

Guests in attendance included princesses Beatrice and Eugenie who are also friends of the designer.
More from the Mail:
'Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in the Italian capital - but without baby Archie - and the couple have kept a low profile missing out on dinner with A-list stars who partied ahead of the three-day wedding of their matchmaker Misha.
Ms Nonoo and Mr Hess will walk down the aisle as the sun goes down at Villa Aurelia, a baroque villa and vineyard once owned Pope Paolo III that sits on one of Rome's seven hills and enjoys extraordinary panoramic views of the city.
The party will continue on Saturday with another expensive event at the celebrated Cinecittà film studios. More than 3,000 movies have been filmed there including 47 Oscar winning ones such as La Dolce Vita and Cleopatra. It has been so loved by directors including Fellini, Scorcese and Ford Coppola it has earned the nickname 'Hollywood on the Tiber.'
Born in Bahrain, raised in London, and educated in Paris, Misha Nonoo’s multicultural upbringing exposed her to a diverse collection of references. Her work showcases a unique outlook for the modern multifaceted woman. Offering versatile pieces at accessible price points, her collection is progressive yet classic, with both smart and sexy details that support women from 9am to 9pm. Misha won industry recognition when she became a finalist for the 2013 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, and was named one of Forbes’ 30 under 30, as well as one of Crain’s New York Business’ 40 under 40. Below we see Meghan and Misha with close friend Markus Anderson on holiday in Madrid in 2016.
When Meghan made her official debut with Harry at the Invictus Games in Toronto, she opted for the Husband Shirt by the designer.

Fast forward to January 2019, when Meghan was making calls during the infancy of the Smart Works capsule collection planning. She knew she could trust Misha to create the perfect white shirt and thus the Smart Set Shirt was created. Speaking to the Telegraph about the launch, the designer said: "When I said to her this is what I'm thinking and sent her the outline, she said 'great, love it'. She was very very trusting. She is the consummate professional and it was extraordinarily easy to collaborate on this project."
17th century Villa Aurelia has been the property of the American Academy in Rome since 1909, and was recently restored by Studio Einaudi architects. The restoration effort was led on behalf of the American Academy in Rome in 2000.
Today, it serves as one of the most sought-after exclusive wedding venues in Italy.
More from Villa Aurelia's website: "The beauty of the Villa gardens, the breathtaking view of Rome, and the variety of spaces available make Villa Aurelia an ideal location for high-level external events such as receptions, dinners and board meetings. In order to ensure that each and every event that takes place at Villa Aurelia is a very special and personal occasion, the Villa is rented out on an absolutely exclusive basis. Only one event is organised on any one day, and clients are free to choose the areas that best suit their purposes. Villa Aurelia is not held to using any particular supplier and this gives our guests the freedom to choose their own catering company, florists and musicians, and any other services they may think fit for the best possible result whether it be a private, public or company occasion."
Misha recently told People she designed her own dresses:
The dress code for the wedding was black tie. Meghan wore a pair of gorgeous statement earrings with an elegant updo and a black evening gown with sparkling detail.
"It was really hard actually,” she says. “When I’m designing a piece, I’m usually thinking about every woman. It has to tick a lot of boxes. When you’re thinking about designing something that you’re going to wear for one day and you have to really only think about yourself, it’s different.
Obviously, you want your husband to think you look beautiful and you want your respective families to as well, but otherwise you can do whatever you want — you can have short sleeves, long sleeves, high neck, low neck, open back, no back. It makes it much more challenging. I like to design with a set of parameters. It took awhile for me to come to what it was going to be in the end. I had some ideas initially. I knew I wanted it to be traditional. So I’ve opted for two dresses, so I can tick both boxes!"

Caroline Parr identified Meghan's gown as Valentino's Puff-Sleeve Embroidered Tulle Gown in black. Made in Italy, it features sequin embellishments and wraparound fastening.
It looks like a beautiful wedding. Congratulations to Misha and Mikey!

Also today, we know Instagram is Harry and Meghan's social media platform of choice. Before meeting Harry, Meghan had a thriving account and loved to connect with others using the social media tool. During her 'travels' on Instagram, the Duchess came across marine non-profit Love the Oceans and highlighted their work on Sussex Royal.
More on the organisation:
'Love the Oceans is a non-profit marine conservation organisation working in Guinjata Bay, Mozambique since 2014. Guinjata Bay, whilst home to a huge host of marine life, has never been studied in depth for any prolonged amount of time. Love The Oceans hopes to protect and study the diverse marine life found here, including many species of sharks, rays and the famous humpback whales. We use research, education and diving to drive action towards a more sustainable future. Our ultimate goal is to establish a Marine Protected Area for the Inhambane Province in Mozambique, achieving higher biodiversity whilst protecting endangered species. We have developed a cutting edge, ethical volunteer program that gives individuals the chance to get hands on conservation experience, working alongside our marine biologists doing research, community work and diving in Mozambique.'
As she learned more, Meghan decided a donation was in order in Archie's name. More from Harper's Bazaar:
'BAZAAR.com can exclusively confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex donated in the name of their son to help realize an ambitious project: Building a swimming pool in Guinjata Bay, Mozambique, to teach locals to swim. The resort town is home to one of the most picturesque coastlines in the world, but the area has seen an average of 12 drownings a year that could easily be avoided if local children—many of whom grow up to be fishermen—were taught how to swim and be safe in open waters. At present, 90 percent of the local population is unable to swim.
Adam Knight, a swim coach and partner with marine conservation non-profit Love the Oceans, had been running a JustGiving.com fundraiser for almost a month and was still £4,350 ($5,440) away from their target of £5,000 ($6,250). BAZAAR understands that Duchess Meghan came across the page after browsing their most recent Instagram posts and wanted to help them reach their goal.
Knight tells BAZAAR.com that staff were "blown away" by the donation when it appeared in mid-August, but were unsure of who the mystery donor—simply named "Archie HMW"—was. Some wondered whether it was from the Sussexes after the couple pledged support for the charity on their Instagram account in August. "I said to my colleague, 'That has to be Harry and Meghan,'" Knight says. "We made some calls and were able to verify that it was from them, which is just incredible. Without that donation and support this would not be happening."
Since the donation, Meghan has been privately working with Love the Oceans' Andrea Biden and connected them with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, which strongly supports teaching children to swim. You might recall Harry and Meghan rang in the New Year in 2018 in Monaco and reportedly spent time with Prince Albert and Princess Charlene.
Finally, we are just three days away from the Sussex tour. I'm incredibly excited to document it as unfolds. Here's a reminder of the schedule for day one.
- The tour begins in a township in Cape Town where Harry and Meghan will view a workshop that educates children about their rights and safety, and provides self defence and female empowerment training for young girls in the community.
- From there, the Duke and Duchess will tour the District Six Museum to learn about their work reuniting community members forcibly relocated during the apartheid era.
- The day will conclude with a community cooking activity with former residents of District Six at the nearby Homecoming Centre.
You can view the full itinerary on the Meghan's Calendar page. Are you looking forward to the tour?
